If you work in digital marketing, then you know how important Google Analytics is. But changes are coming in the upcoming year, and after 10 years Google is retiring Analytics 3. So, what exactly does that mean? Here is how you can get ready for Google Analytics 4.
What Is Google Analytics 4?
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is a great tool to help measure engagement and traffic on both website and mobile platforms. It was released in October 2020 with the purpose of delivering a deeper analysis to everyone who is used to having Google Analytics as their main tool to check blog and site performance.
When Will Things Change?
Right now, Google Analytics is still offering two different versions: GA3 (Universal Analytics) and GA4, but as of July 1st, 2023, Google will stop recording hits in the UA properties, and new data will stop processing on October 1st, 2023 (don’t worry, you will stay be able to access your previous data for at least 6 months). This gives its users lots of time to get used to the new system. It is recommended to start optimizing and setting up at least 6 months to 1 year ahead of the start date, that way there will be fewer issues or interruptions with reporting.
What Will Change?
There are many designs and dashboard functionality differences between UA and GA4. Here are some other substantial differences between the two.
– Different Measurement Models and Event Tracking
– Tracking and Operation Across Multiple Platforms
– New Reporting & Interface
– No Relying on Cookies or IP Storage
Google Analytics 4 is available now and can fully support your data. As you switch over to GA4 it is also important to update other marketing strategies. When UA stops processing on July 1st, 2023, your Google Ads will also be affected – so make sure to update beforehand.
